Andy Taylor all the way. He's got the gun lobby's vote, but then he's palatable to gun control interests. He's a moralist, but he's not overly churchy. He's a widow, so all the hot drugstore babes and nurses play well.

Stockdale looked too much like Alfred E. Newman, and was insubordinate. Matlock is out of touch with the youth, and there was the one where they took pictures of him with that floosie. Dirt doesn't have to stick, just smear.

" perhaps a better question would be 'how come network television refused to broadcast an hour of conversation between william f buckley and floyd the barber?'

They did. Oh, wait, that was the 2000 presidental debates. Oh, wait, that was floyd the barber and a manniquin...

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaahaha

(which one was floyd?)

that kinda stuff sure went downhill from its apex in 1968 when one of the networks (i forget which one) arranged to have gore vidal and william f buckley provide live convention commentary.

Ugh, gah, it would be a tad verbose. I don't think either of them could write a haiku if you put a gun to their heads.

On the other hand, maybe the intellectual contrast between the commentary and the debate would be so stark people would actually see how miserable our choices really are. Can't have that.

here's the exact dialogue from the best moment of that incredible event:

Vidal: "the only pro or crypto-Nazi here is yourself."

Buckley: "Now listen, you queer, you stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I'll sock you in the goddamn face and you'll stay plastered."

A gun to their heads?
That's a somewhat drastic way
To get a Haiku

can anyone tell me why a goodbye thread gets more comments than a welcome thread?
on Jul 31, 2005
mainly because we aren't even bothering to address the goodbye part, and it is more of a threat than an actual goodbye, I think. He won't even delete the article he stole, much less the rest.

I am convinced he is just a child without really understanding what is goin on or why... just ignore him and he'll go away...

Hehehehehe. I had to hear it for myself. Thanks to Google, I did: http://kronykronicle.com/1968/BV4.html

Quite entertaining. Replace Vidal's Viet Kong apologetics with Muslim Insurgents and the end even becomes relevant for today.

Vidal: "Now you're distorting your own military record."

Yummy.

jeez it's too easy to forget just how much more fun life was back then. or maybe it's because the future turned out to be nothing like it once appeared to be?

(i said it somewhere else, but it's worth a reprise: welcome back gene!)
