#1 >"The Iron Bowl"
Alabama vs. Auburn
Series Record: Alabama leads 38-30-1 (2004)
Trophy: Omicron Delta Kappa-James E. Foy V Sportsmanship Trophy
Notes: It's my personal favorite, and arguably the greatest rivalry in college football. This game literally stops a state. The teams didn't play from 1907 to 1948 because of various arguments between the schools. The trophy for this game isn't as important as the ownership of the state that comes with a win.

#2 "The Civil War"
Oregon vs. Oregon State
Series Record: Oregon leads 54-44-10 (2004)

#3 "The Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South"
Auburn vs. Georgia

Series Record: Auburn leads 52-48-8 (2004)
Notes: Like many other games, these two even argue about the overall record between the two teams. The schools played the first SEC overtime game in 1996. Both teams played their first College Football game against each other in 1892 in Atlanta, which Auburn won 10-0.

#4 "Clean, Old-fashioned Hate" Georgia vs. Georgia Tech
Series Record: Georgia leads 56-38-5 (2004)
Notes: as of 1999, Georgia has discounted the 1943 and 1944 Georgia Tech wins due to their claim that Georgia Tech used its naval school to supply ringers for the game. The record above is the Georgia Tech record of the series.

#5 "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" Florida vs. Georgia

Series Record: Georgia leads 46-35-2 (2004)
Notes: Like many other rivalries, these two can't agree on the series record. Florida disputes the above record, claiming Georgia has one victory less.

Honorable Mention: Florida vs. Florida State

Best Regards, Lucas

Rivalries are very much a regional thing. I do not see how your rivalries list could have missed the great state of Texas, where football is king, and Oklahoma, where it's not far behind. OU-Texas definitely should rank HIGH on the list!

Also, not one rivalry involving Penn State. Methinks thou oughtta make it a top TEN and go OUTSIDE the SEC a bit (as you failed to do in all examples except for the rivalry in the Socialist Republic of Oregon).

I don't know where you got those picks, Lucas. If I had to guess I would say from an SEC fan.

Oregon-Oregon State is alright if you're from Oregon, but it's not even the best rivalry in the Pac-10. USC-UCLA is better. Cal-Stanford is better. Washington-Washington St. is better. Hell Arizona-Arizona St. might be better, too.

In another blog you said you didn't think the SEC was any good, then you pick at least one SEC school in every one of your favorite rivalries but one. It's okay to pick them but why do you say the SEC wasn't any good? I'll tell you what if Oregon played in the SEC they would have more than one loss.

Its all a matter of opinion... The SEC sucks because when it matches up against other conferences, 9/10 times its gonna get its butt handed to them on a silver platter... (IMO) The rivalries in the SEC always have a lot of history... I mean, looking back at the Auburn - Alabama rivalry... 47 year hiatus over a small fight? c'mon...

IMHO, the Big 8 (now whatever) and Big 10 (now 12) have the most intense rivalries.  As long as USC wins the PAC 10, I could care less about theirs!

All of the picks listed pale in comparison to the one game that brings an entire state to a dead stop;

USC(That's the Univ. of South Carolina) v/s Clemson...both stadiums hold at least 80k, with another 20k or so outside, tickets are sold out for decades, the series is around 50/50, going back to pre-historic times when they played with human heads........

Another honorable mention is Yale - Harvard, the longest played rivalry.... too bad they arn't as intense as they used to be...
