In HST 102, we covered the Civil War a week ago. So, that got me to reading books about Abe Lincoln. This made me think about a few things.
Abe Lincoln is like Bush in that they both have done things that were not "status quo" according to the nation. (e.g. Emancipation Proclamation/ Iraq War)
They were/are both opposed vigorously by opposing parties. Both have been/were accused of illicit practices (e.g. the "detective" bureau under lincoln / NSA debacle)
They both had agencies under them (which could be said to be typical of the gov't regardless of who is in the WH), that lied, swindled, etc...
Despite the fact that now and then (the CW) are completely different times, there are some similarities in that both now, 'and' then we are at war. The nation isn't exactly whole-hearted in aggrement and the economy is so-so. Lincoln became known as a great president, who knows...maybe 10-20, maybe even 30 yers down the road Bush will be like wise felt as a great president.
Just some thoughts...
