The Article: Link

I would love to hear these arguments again as to why some people are stupid or just don't know history well enough to feel that the Confederate Flag can be looked upon as a sign of racism and bigotry.

--I don't think those people are either stupid or ignorant, that is there opinion, I feel similar, I don't see the confederate flag as a symbol of hate, prejudice or any thing at all, it is a symbol....it was originally a symbol of pride, like the US flag. IMO it was the 'anti-slavery' radicals that began the association of it with horrible things, just like the swastika, the swastika Link originally was just a symbol, only when mal-intentions where associated with it, then, did it become "evil", Symbols are not evil, the intentions/goals, etc...behind them are.

I do not disclaim that the Confederate Flag does not have the horror of the Swastika of the current and past century, but to ignore the fact that many who killed, shot, kept separate, pushed down and tried with all its might to keep a culture of segregation used that very flag as a symbol of what they were about is a wash out of the very history you claim discredits the flag as a sign of racism.

--I don't think any one is ignoring what has happened in the past...

I am rehashing the subject after reading and watching the history of voting. You see the tapes, the clips, the posters, the words and many of them are attached to the Confederate Flag.

From people holding the flag while marching against integration to burning down homes, the flag some here claim has no relationship whatsoever to racism seems to have been used a whole lot.

--Some could say that the pope, head of the catholic church, could be a symbol of hatred, etc... as the pope at the time of the Aztecs, Mayas, etc... fall, condoned the actions....

To those who feel the North was just as bad, my response to that is... it was. Nevertheless, it wasn't as blatant, nor was it so hard for a person of color to live there and was why so many moved there. Plus, it wasn't under a flag... people didn't show up to protests waving a separate flag to represent their point of view... their culture... their way of life.

--Bull, This statement is ignorant, read more about the history of that time, It was just as hard if not equally hard, just because the north "proclaimed" to want to help the slaves doesn't mean it was entirely true, a majority of the Americans did not support the war in hopes of freeing slaves, but, in that revenge could be brought upon the states that Ceded from the union. The north (at the time, and in history) is clouded the "rightness" of leading the crusade in anti slavery......

It is my conclusion that some here just can't get the fact that there can be people who do not like the flag and have real reasons for it. To those who just find it unacceptable for a sane person knowledgeable in history to look at the flag as a symbol of racism within culture, I think are in of a need of a reality check.

--I can accept it, but, are those people getting the entire truth, are they really researching the flag, etc...some are, some are not....some are in need of an ignorance check....

You have your reasons for liking it; calling people ignorant for having real reasons to call the very flag you love a symbol of centuries of segregation, death, and racism, rape, broken homes and dreams forced upon only a select people only because of the color of their skin only shows just how ignorant of reality you are about your very own flag.

--

I said it before, and I'll say it again; it is one thing to have the flag on a car or in some room of yours, but waving outside of your house would make me conclude (until at least talking to you) at first glance that I should be wary of you.

Is my opinion valid, or just ignorant of history?

--- Then you sir, judge people at first glance, you (from what you have said) have shown me you don't get to know things first...hmmm? Think about it...

--I think this comes down to one thing: Don’t judge something (or someone, etc…) at first glance…
