To Replacing Klamath Union High School... BOOYAH!!!
Published on October 12, 2005 By ----- In Misc
Apparently there has been some serious discussion of destroying my former high school and either moving the students to the other local highschool, and establish it as *the* high school (in a town of 45,000+) in klamath falls. Or, a proposal of 42-55 million dollars to build a new school not too far from the current one. Just to accomadate 1250 students. The last enrollement numbers account for 1050 students, with space left.

Now, the building itself has been around since 1928. And has done just fine, with the exception of a carbon monoxide scare, and the need of the entire heating/cooling system to be replaced. It survived a few bomb scares (during my tenure there), an actual bombing which nearly destroyed the bell in front (Original school's bell, from first KF school), and the 1992 (7+) earth quake. (Which i might add destroyed the county courthouse, and muninciple building...) It has been well maintained for many years> why build a new one that would cost money for the tax payers? A plan to add to the school was shot down. Why? I don't know. There is enough room to expand, though , the school is landlocked, and any future plan to expand would be stopped.

Many generations of families have gone to KU (mine included, 5 generations). Thosands of alumni have golden memories of the hallowed halls, the school pride, of the mighty Pelicans. Over 30 years of canal bowls (an irrigation canal runs through the town, and both schools in the city are next to it, at opposite ends, KUHS, and Mazama HS) have been played upon the great Modoc Field. KUHS's tradition is rooted there. Its years of triumph and sorrow blanket the grounds.

I say no, do not tear down the school. Leave it be, and put money into the education part of it. GO PELICANS!!! BOOYAH!!!
