Squaw -> Shrew ?

*Sighs* Here we go again...

Well, the local tribe has demanded that all of the roads, and locals that bear the name 'squaw', (geographic locals, etc..) be renamed. They also happened to insist that instead of squaw, to use 'shrew'.

For those who don't get it, Shrew (according to Dictionary.com) means:

1. Any of various small, chiefly insectivorous mammals of the family Soricidae, resembling a mouse but having a long pointed snout and small eyes and ears. Also called shrewmouse.

2. A woman with a violent, scolding, or nagging temperament; a scold.

Whereas, Squaw means:

Squaw

1. an American Indian woman

2. Offensive. A Native American woman, especially a wife.

3. Offensive Slang. A woman or wife.

~Right...well...humorous, Anyway. My biggest gripe with it is the cost of changing all the phone books, street signs, etc...

Yeah that sucks... better off that the city not waste the time, energy or effort correcting a term that is offensive like "nigger" is seen. Save a buck.
